A rising young star in the world of opera, the acclaimed soprano Ruby Hughes won both First Prize and the Audience Prize at the 2009 London Handel Singing Competition, was a BBC New Generation Artist 2011/2013, the holder of the 2014 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award and shortlisted for a 2014 Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award.

Festival appearances have included the BBC Proms, Cheltenham, Fishguard, Gent Festival OdeGand, Göttingen, Lockenhaus, Nuremberg, St Endellion and West Cork.

She has broadcast and recorded extensively covering a wide rage of repertoire including works by Bach, Barber, Berg, Britten, Crumb, Handel, Haydn, Mahler, Maxwell Davies, Macmillan, Schubert and Schumann.

Ruby is a keen recitalist and works closely with the pianists Julius Drake and Joseph Middleton.  In 2015 she will release her first solo recital disc with pianist Joseph Middleton for the Champs Hill label.  She makes her US debut in 2015 in a recital with Julius Drake at The Frick Collection in New York and with Symphony Orchestra Augusta in  Górecki‘s Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.

Her recent engagements have included a performance at the 2014 BBC Proms with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, her debut at the Davos Festival, concerts with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, a recital at the Gent Festival and a return for the third consecutive year to the West Cork International Chamber Music Festival.

Future highlights include tours with Jordi Savall, Concerto Köln under Ivor Bolton, Basel Chamber Orchestra under Trevor Pinnock including a performance at the Lucerne Festival and with the Wiener Akademie under Martin Haselböck as well as performances with the Ulster Orchestra, a return to the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and recital with Julius Drake at the Wigmore Hall.
